Have you ever had to deal with sick fish? Finding fish medications can be difficult. We recommend keeping a Fish First Aid Kit around your aquarium. Any good pet store or aquarium shop can tell you what fish medications you need to keep in your first aid kit. Giving fish medications to one fish in a tank full of fish can be a problem, this is where hospital tanks come into play.
Hospital Tanks
Hospital tanks have become a necessity in owning an aquarium today. Hospital tanks are used for two primary purposes: the first is to quarantine new fish and acclimate them to the main display aquarium the second is to isolate fish that happen to get sick. Hospital tanks should be small in size and should have some sort of dark gravel in the bottom, and some form of shelter. Hospital tanks should also be set at the same temperature as the main display aquarium.
What Fish Medications Should Be In Your Fish First Aid Kit
Depending on what type of aquarium you have there are different fish medications that you should have. For freshwater aquariums you should have freshwater aquarium salt, an anti bacterial treatment, an internal parasite control, vitamins, and a stress reducer/dechlorinator. If you have a saltwater aquarium than you need to have an anti bacterial treatment, an external parasite control, vitamins, a stress reducer/dechlorinator, and a marine salt.
